US Congress
Algeria - Rabia Khreis

European supervisors and a delegation from US Congress continued their meetings with boycott political parties that refused to take part in the May 4 parliament elections, along with media personalities and civil society representatives to achieve political stability in Algeria before the elections. The European delegation faced difficulty convincing the political parties of its credibility, and a lot of parties declared their boycott, on top of them is “Culture and Democracy Rally” party.

In a statement ”Arab Today” was able to see, the party accused the European and American delegation of being biased to the Algerian government, as they issued official complaint about the honesty of these elections, despite the lack of any recorded violations. The party asked the delegation frequently to hire decent supervisors, and hire them according to the known standards.

The party also said that the European experts adjust their agendas to serve the European Union economic and diplomatic interests. The delegation asked chairman of “Forerunners of Freedoms” party, Ali bin Flis about his boycott to the parliament elections in the 4th of May. He said one of the reasons is that, this delegation lacks serious guarantees of pure and fair elections.

He added that his party first priority is to solve the crisis that threatens the security and stability of this country. He also opposed against Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s political reforms, pointing out that the current legal and legislative system is a setback to the former electoral system.

The European delegation met Secretary-General of the Algerian President's Party, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, Gamal Ould Abbas in the first day of the elections. The delegation informed the opposition parties that they came to Algeria as observers. The delegation was accompanied by another American delegation in "Exploratory" mission. They finished their two days visit to Algeria, which was to know the next due time regarding these elections.
