The Algerian government and the political parties begin preparations for the local elections to be organized, according to Algerian Prime Minister Abdel Meguid Tiboun, from November to December.

The government tries to repeat the scenario of May 4 parliamentary elections, where popular dislocation of the elections turned into a real boycott .The boycotters were from political parties, civil society activists and ordinary citizens.

Algerian Interior Minister Noureddine Badawi stressed the need to prepare the necessary conditions for the success of the upcoming local elections, pointed out to the need for the upcoming municipal councils to assume their full responsibilities in improving the framework of citizens' living and attracting investments.

The minister considered the recent parliamentary elections held in Algeria as a "brick" to build the democratic institutional structure in the light of fundamental changes approved by the new constitution, stressing the need for the forthcoming municipal people's councils to assume their responsibilities and to respond effectively to the new situation with full awareness of their developmental roles.

On the other hand, the political blocs that announced their participation in the upcoming local elections have entered a race against time to overcome the mistakes recorded in the last legislative elections and try to regain their lost electoral constituency.

Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika's secretary-general, Gamal Ould Abbas, wants to know the reasons for the election's low attendance, and has asked the party's provinces and local constituencies to provide him with detailed reports on the causes of electoral abstention as soon as possible.

The Secretary-General of Hizb ut-Tahrir stressed the encouragement of young candidates and women with the adoption of the criterion of high efficiency, in addition to granting an additional privilege to the candidates from the categories of Mujahideen and their sons and sons of martyrs. Observers believe that the biggest concern that afflicts the Algerian government as is the abstention of the Algerian voters from voting, which has become common denominator in the various elections.
