Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf met Housing Minister Bassim bin Yaqoub Al Hamar.

At the meeting outset, minister Khalaf said that the meeting aims to achieve complete integration between service ministries for the purpose of serving citizens and improving living standards for all.

Minister Al Hamar commended the efforts extended by the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning and the exceptional support they constantly extend to the Housing Ministry.

The two ministers discussed projects under implementation and future projects serving the new housing areas; namely North Town and East Hidd Housing Project, East Sitra and Luzi Housing Projects.

As regards the projects serving North Town, the Housing Minister was informed about the road revamp projects targeting access to North Town, which include the construction of the Western Road, which has completed and is the first access to North Town and hoped to serve 5000 housing units, the Revamp of Jasra Interchange, phase 1 of which has completed, while phase 2 is presently underway.

The meeting also cited the expansion of Budaiya Highway and Janabiya Highway from two lanes to three lanes and the expansion of Sheikh Isa bin Salman Highway, whose detailed designs are presently being prepared and will be expanded from three lanes to four lanes.

As regards the road projects serving East Hidd Housing Project, the meeting highlighted the expansion of Muharraq Ring Road, which the Ministry is currently implementing and is considered an extension to Muharraq 4th Causeway; connecting Busaiteen to Bahrain Bay. Three proposals have been raised regarding access to and exit from East Hidd Housing Project. Reference was also made to the preliminary designs for East Sitra Housing Project and Luzi Housing Project, whose detailed designs the Ministry has completed; aiming to provide a dual road with four lanes connecting the extension of Roundabouts 13-18 to Zaid Bin Omaira Avenue. Tender bids for the project are expected to be invited in the first quarter of year 2018.

The meeting was also attended by Works Affairs Undersecretary Ahmed Al Khayyat, Housing Projects Assistant Undersecretary Sami Bu Haza’a, Roads Planning & Design Director Kadhim Abdul Latif and a number of engineers from both ministries. The meeting discussed roads projects leading to new housing projects.
