Cairo - Mina Samy

Egyptian lawyer Ahmed Fawzy criticized the Egyptian authorities for the accusations against former presidential candidate Khaled Ali, saying that such accusation is loose and politically motivated.
He added that Egypt’s criminal law has a large number of loose charges, saying that if a man kissed his wife in the street, he would be accused of violating public moral.
He said that his client is prepared to address the country's issues but thinks it is unlikely security forces will allow his potential candidacy a fair shot. "Society needs to have an experience of resistance. If we keep not resisting, they will stay in control," he said.
He stressed that the defense team has not been informed of the videos and photographs that have been recorded in the investigation record against Ali, and there is no confrontation with that, pointing out that the Department of Criminal Evidence at the Ministry of the Interior is working to examine the videos and pictures.
He added that his client received a decent and respectable treatment at the Dokki police station where he spent his night. The department's services allowed Ali's family and friends to feed him. He was also held away from cells reserved for criminal prisoners and registered prisoners.
He said, “The former presidential candidate asked the prosecution to read the text of the report during the investigation and remained silent using his legal right. The client confirmed in the investigations that the communication against him from the famous lawyer Samir Sabri was in response to his positions from the Egyptian cities of Tiran and Sanafir. Judiciary in the case.”
