Egypt's mufti calls for strategic approach to fight extremism

Egypt's Mufti Dr Shawqi Allam has called for a strategic and professional way to fight violence and extremism so that stability is restored.

Addressing an international conference on extremism and takfiri ideology, which opened here earlier Tuesday, Allam said this gathering is very important, coming at a time that entails big responsibility to correct the misconceptions about Islam.

Muslim scholars should be up to that responsibility of countering challenges to regional stability, he noted.

It is high time intellectual and professional approaches were adopted in the war against terrorism, Allam stressed.

The conference also aims to strengthen relations among Muslim scholars all over the world.
