UN urges Syria to end violence against children

The UN says that hundreds of children have been killed in the ongoing bloodshed in Syria and is calling on the country to immediately stop such attacks, the Associated Press reports. Radhika Coomaraswamy, special representative for Children and Armed Conflict, has issued a statement noting that the situation is particularly harrowing in the restive city of Homs, where reports of the killing of children and shelling of civilian infrastructure are received daily. According to UN estimates, more than 5,400 people have lost their lives since the unrest engulfed Syria in March.
