Algerian authorities have set up a special program
Algeria - Rabia Khureis

Algeria's Minister of Justice, Taieb Loh, denied that the Algerian authorities have set up a special program to punish those involved in extremist issues, which is being implemented in coordination with the Algerian Ministry of Religious Affairs to combat extremism.

According to the Algerian Minister of Justice, defendants involved in extremist cases benefit from religious programs to combat extremist ideology, in accordance with the centrality and the Maliki doctrine as part of an agreement with the Algerian Ministry of Religious Affairs to fight terrorism.

In December 2016, Algeria's Minister of Religious Affairs, Mohamed Issa, announced that his ministry adopted a plan, in coordination with the Ministry of Justice, to eliminate radicalization in prisons.

The Algerian Minister of Justice stressed that they receipt seven defendants wanted by the Algerian judiciary from different countries without mentioning the name of these countries.

He said that the defendants involved in extremist and drug smuggling cases, adding that his ministry handed over six others to different countries in the framework of international cooperation to combat extremism. He pointing out that Algeria finally signed with the US government a judicial cooperation agreement in the field of combatting terrorism, in 20 April.

US government has recently intensified its relations with Algeria in the fight against extremism. A recent report by Washington Institute revealed that Algeria had submitted a list of more than 1,000 Algerian suspects in European and American territories posing a threat to public security.

The report praised the Algerian security effort in the global war on terrorism
