A 100-member delegation from Al Azhar University led by Dr Abdel-Hai Azab visited the site of the New Suez Canal on Monday.
Egypt and Al Azhar University support such giant project, Azab said during the visit, stressing that Al Azhar represents moderate Islam away from any extremism or terror.
Al Azhar will stand against all extremism thought adopted by terror groups who are spreading terrorism around the world, he said.
He called on all Egyptians to visit the site "to witness this part of Egypt's history that is currently being written by its people."
