Malda - Arabstoday

Asserting that there is a need to pay special attention to the education sector to maintain the growth rate, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Saturday said more youngsters should get world-class education so that India's scientists and engineers excel in the global arena. Dr. Singh in his address at the foundation laying ceremony of 'Ghani Khan Choudhary institute of Engineering and Technology in Malda' said 'the UPA Government is giving special attention to education to spur economic growth'. "Our UPA Government has given special attention to the education sector to fulfill India's growing economic requirements. It will be difficult to maintain the growth rate without this. We have increased the share of education in GDP from 3.3 percent to 4 percent," said Dr. Singh. Dr. Singh said the government has established new institutes to boost higher education, which includes 16 central universities, 8 IITs, 7 IIMs, 10 NITs and 5 IISERs. Dr. Singh further said there was a mission to impart skills to five crore youths under the initiatives taken by the National Skill Development Council. "We want more youngsters to get world-class education so that India's scientists and engineers can earn its place in the world," he said. UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and West Bengal Governor M.K. Narayanan were among those present on the occasion. From: News india Track.
