Manama - Arab Today

Bahrain Centre for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (DERASAT) was ranked among the top five Arab research centres, according to the Abu Dhabi-based Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) latest rating.
"DERASAT being rated among the best research and strategic centres is a positive achievement and highlights that the centre is proceeding in steady and sure steps to achieve its goals and aspirations," DERASAT Trustees' Board Chairman Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa said.
He added that he anticipates DERASAT to reach more advanced international rankings with the completion of its development plans and adoption of international criteria in the various aspects of its work.
The think tank will witness numerous international events and research activities that will consolidate its position as a leading centre in the Middle East.
DERASAT has recently hosted its annual forum which achieved tremendous success in terms of the quality of its attendance, participation and outcomes.
Shaikh Abdullah hailed the democratic atmospheres, freedoms and openness in all fields witnessed in the kingdom during the prosperous era of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, with the support and assistance of His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa the Prime Minister and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.
Such positive aspects were reflected in the progress of academic and research activities, he said, citing the efforts of the centre to keep pace with the sustainable development process and to create effective partnership with the community in addition to contributing to boosting security and stability in the Arabian Gulf.
Shaikh Abdullah said the achievement constitutes a major incentive to continue the efforts, as His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa the representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee, has aptly said "The year 2018 will be the Year of Gold for Bahraini Sports."
Based on this commitment to excel, DERASAT will continue in all aspects in the interest of the kingdom’s progress and growth, to achieve the lead in the Arab world and regionally through efficiency, fulfill the leadership’s aspirations and reflect the patronage and support of His Majesty the King of every effort to serve Bahrain and invest in Bahraini human resources as the top priority, he said.
Shaikh Abdullah expressed gratitude and appreciation to the ECSSR, citing its high credibility ratings based on impartial criteria.
The ECSSR report has adopted new academic criteria based on impartiality, fairness and transparency regarding the ranking of Arab and international think tanks.
The academic criteria, applied for the first time, employ accurate and specific parameters and principles of impartiality and transparency that take into consideration contemporary, scientific and intellectual developments.
