The Iranian Haj and Visit Organization announced that negotiations are ongoing with the Saudi side regarding the participation of Iranian pilgrims in the next pilgrimage season.

The organization explained, in a statement, that several meetings were held in the last few days to discuss various dimensions of the issue of the pilgrimage next year, but because of the complexity of this issue, the negotiations are continuing.

The Iranian negotiating delegation had left Tehran, last Wednesday, heading to the Saudi city of Jeddah at the invitation of Riyadh to negotiate regarding the participation of Iranian pilgrims in the next pilgrimage season.

For the first time since three decades, the Iranian delegation did not participate in last year's pilgrimage, following a diplomatic rupture between Tehran and Riyadh after Iranian protesters attacked the Saudi Embassy in Tehran and its Consulate to protest the execution of Shiite cleric Nimr al-Nimr by the kingdom authorities.
