Russia`s permanent representative in the United Nations, Vitaly Churkin, said that his country wants Iran and Saudi Arabia join the Geneva action group on Syria to find a solution for Syria's crisis.

Russian envoy on Thursday (August 16) announced that his country has offered members of the Geneva action group on Syria plus Iran and Saudi Arabia (in a coordinated measure) call on Syria's warring sides to abandon resorting to violence according to a predetermined deadline, as well as pave the way for formation of a transition government in that country by introducing their representatives in that country.

Meanwhile, the member-states of Geneva action group on Syria accepted to hold a meeting to discuss Moscow's new offer on participating Islamic Republic of Iran and Saudi Arabia in meetings on Syria crisis.

The meeting will be held on Friday morning at the UN headquarters in New York.

"The member-states of the Geneva action group on Syria will convene in New York on Friday to discuss Russia's offer," Churkin noted.

Geneva action group on Syria is referred to participants of a meeting held in Geneva last month. The meeting pursued to find ways to resolve Syria's crisis.
