Doha - Arab Today

HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), accompanied by QF Vice Chairperson and CEO Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al-Thani, visited on Wednesday Qatar's information and communication technology exhibition and conference (QITCOM 2017), which is organized by the Ministry of Transport and Communications under the theme "Qatar Towards a Smart Future."
Sheikha Moza toured QITCOM 2017, accompanied also by HE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti. She also met with local and international smart technology innovators and industry leaders including representatives from QF's Hamad bin Khalifa University's (HBKU) College of Science and Engineering, and visited the pavilions of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Vodafone, Qatar Rail and Qatar Assistive Technology Center (Mada).
Reflecting QF's support and mentorship of innovation in Qatar, an array of forward facing QF centers and initiatives are participating in this year's event. Among them is the Qatar National Library (QNL) in support of QITCOM's Digital Youth Festival, having a particular focus on immersing Qatar's youth with everything that is modern technology.
HBKU's Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI), conducted a number of workshops on mobile application development at the exhibition, showcasing its participation in shaping the next generation of coders, and contributing to the nation's innovation and research capacity.
QF was also represented at the event through a number of high-level speakers, while the event drew the participation of a number of QF partner universities such as Texas A and M University at Qatar and Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar.
The Qatar Smart Program (Tasmu) logo was designed by students of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), one of QF's partner universities.
