Bogor, W Java - Arab Today

Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that his country was ready to become the third party to mediate and help resolve the conflicts in Afghanistan.

"We welcomed the Afghan delegation from High Peace Council Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, led by His Highness Mohammed Khalili. We hope Indonesia could take part in mediating the conflicts in Afghanistan," Jokowi stated after welcoming the Afghan delegations in Grand Garden Restaurant, Bogor National Park, on Tuesday.

Jokowi was accompanied by Vice President Jusuf Kalla during the meeting with Khalili and other delegations.

Khalili, on that occasion, stated to Jokowi that his part gladly welcomes Indonesia`s intention to help bring peace in Afghanistan.

"Khalili also stated that they would be glad if Indonesia could take part in resolving conflicts because they consider us to be the first country with regard to moderate Islam," Jokowi stated.

Jokowi also appreciated Afghanistan`s views to consider Indonesia as a neutral party without hidden intentions.

"We welcome the enthusiasm showed by him. They stated that they would make a schedule to invite various religious figures, such as from the Taliban, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and religious figures in Indonesia, to help find a solution for our brethren in Afghanistan," Jokowi remarked.

Speaking to the reporters, the president stated at that meeting that Indonesia is a country with 714 tribes, more than 1,100 local languages, and various religions.

Khalili also pointed out that Indonesia was an example of the correct implementation of Islam.

"They want to share and study a lot regarding moderate Islam in Indonesia," Jokowi added.
