H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has called for the establishment of ‘Arabic Tongue Council’ in the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, to be an educational and scientific incubator for the elite of Mauritanian-Arab scholars.

Sheikh Sultan’s initiative comes as part of his perpetual efforts in establishing Arabic academies and other institutions, which support and promote the language.

The new council aims to encourage the use of classical Arabic in the fields of media, education and culture. It also seeks to facilitate language rules in addition to exploring its secrets, encouraging the teaching of sciences, mathematics and other subjects in Arabic as well as enhancing research, authoring, publishing and innovation.

Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Mohammed Al Ameen Weld Al Sheikh, the Mauritanian Minister of Culture, praised the project, citing H.H.'s continued support of the Arabic identity and the key components of the Islamic culture.

Mohammed Safi Al Mestghanmi, the Secretary-General of the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah, underlined the vision of the Ruler of Sharjah and his support to the Arabic language with his prudent vision of building a great cultural project based on the principles of Arab and Islamic identity.

The founding committee of the council announced the launch during a ceremony held at the Royal Suites Hotel in Nouakchott, Mauritania, which was attended by a distinguished group of intellectuals, scholars and researchers.
