Egyptian actress Dalia el Behery expressed her happiness over the positive reactions for her series, Al Qasserat (Underage Girls) which looks into underage marriage.
Taking on the role of a Sahidy woman (upper Egyptian) for the first time was a turning point in Dalia's ?career, the actress affirmed to Arab Today, adding that the reasons to take on the character came after requests from her fans.
“I love the Sahidy community and have wanted to play the role of Sahidy woman for quite a while, and the fact my fans wanted the same only perpetuated this," the actress said.
"I was hoping to play this role through a ?drama that discusses the social issues surrounding the society and I found this with Al Qasserat. I feel this drama highlights the taboo issues of underage marriage - which is not just spread in upper Egypt but also among poorer and less educated levels."
"My character Eter was ?far from the traditional stereotype of Sahidy women. I did not face any difficulty talking in the Sahidy dialect, I was aware of it before shooting ?the series. However, I did have a linguistic corrector on the side to help me perfect every scene."
Dalia rejected critics comments about young girls playing the roles of the underage girls and filming tough scenes.
"I believe Magdy Abu Omaira did a great job in selecting these young actresses. Playing the role of these underage girls added a state ?of reality to the events. They astonished the ?audience with their high level performances and were able to send a strong message through the series. ?Their presence raised people’s discontent about this phenomenon and made the viewers sympathise ?more with what they go through. This is the message we wanted to deliver”? Dalia explained.
Al Qasserat has been written by Samah al Hariry, directed by Magdy Abu Omaira and stars Salah el Saadany, Dalia el ?Behery Yasser Galal, Nehal Anber and Liqa Suwaidan.
