Kuwait - KUNA

Education Ministry officials held talks on Sunday with a World Bank team, engaged in the ministry future overhauling plan (2014-2018), on new educational realms and proposed priorities in the joint technical cooperation program, scheduled for the coming years. Emerging from the meeting with the WB officials, Education Undersecretary Mariam Al-Wtaid said the two sides examined projects and programs of the remaining 2013-2014 period, concerning examinations, schools' administration and upgrading curricula. The Undersecretary urged the World Bank to send in topnotch experts to organize training and educational workshops, intended to contribute to developing the Kuwaiti educational sector, indicating that such a move would help in minimizing number of staff and cadres dispatched abroad for enrollment in such courses. She also indicated that such training courses could be held at schools in Kuwait. Al-Wtaid urged the visiting WB team to cooperate with Dr. Ridha Al-Khayat, Director of the National Educational Development Center, in assessing the educational sector, on basis of specific standards and criteria. Undersecretary Al-Wtaid stressed that overhauling the sector must be full and in an integrated manner, covering axes such as teaching methods, updating teacher's skills, educational environment and assessing high schools. The World Bank has been giving technical advice to the State of Kuwait on means of developing this field.
