Cairo – Shaimaa Mekkawi
Moroccan singer Samira Said has decided, after having been away from the music scene four years ago, to produce a new album at her own expense. Samira said she wanted to be back on stage with an impressive work after her long absence, due to the deteriorating conditions of the Arab music following the recent events. In an exclusive interview with Arabstoday, the singer said: "Although I normally refuse to work as a producer, I've decided to give it a try because of the awful recession the musicians sector is currently undergoing, which led to a lack of work in production. “On the other hand, I miss my audience and I won’t stay away from it for long,” the singer said. Samira also added: “I decided to produce a new album for myself; however, I keep very clear in mind the possibility of a loss, as a worst case scenario, just not to get too depressed if it happens". About the album’s budget, Samira said: "I haven't set a budget yet; however, I am prepared to spend as much as it takes to make the work look great, just like my audience would expect it to be". The album will include 12 songs. “I am carefully choosing them," Samira said, "and I am almost done with it. I will do my best to launch the album by the end of the year. I will not disclose the song names; however, I can anticipate that there will be a song about the Arab revolutions”. The singer also mentioned that she “will work with great poets and composers." “Also, I will look for new talents to involve them in the making of this album", Samira added. About her duet with Egyptian singer Sherine, Samira said that they are still working on it. "We haven’t decided the idea to develop yet. It should be something new and different, in order to grab our audiences".
