The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) will establish a new academic center focused on Southeast Asia, Singapore media reported on Thursday. The establishment of the center came after the institution received "significant donation" from its Singaporean graduates Saw Swee Hock. Saw is known for his teaching career and his success as an investor. He is now a member of the Board of Trustees of the National University of Singapore and patron of the Saw Center for Financial Studies of the university's Business School. He is also known for his generous donations to universities, including China's Xiamen University. The LSE said the Saw Swee Hock Southeast Asia Center will be located on its campus. It will bring together researchers for interdisciplinary analysis of policy issues facing Southeast Asia, while strengthening research and engagement with the Southeast Asian region. The new center will be led by Malaysian-born Professor Danny Quah as director designate. He is professor of economics and international development at LSE and "an expert on the rise of eastern economies," the LSE said.
