Jeddah - Arab Today

The Saudi Electricity Co. (SEC) succeeded in passing the new record peak at Al-Haram Al-Makki with high temperatures in most regions of the Kingdom.
On the 27th night of Ramadan, Al-Masjid Al-Haram has set a record peak of 102 MVA, an increase of 20 percent compared to last year’s record. The Saudi Electricity Co. (SEC) succeeded in passing the new record peak at Al-Haram Al-Makki with high temperatures in most regions of the Kingdom.
At the beginning of the week, the company successfully passed the largest test of its capacity after the Kingdom set a record peak of 61162 MW, an increase of 666 MW compared to 2016.
SEC reported that the central region of the Holy Capital registered an electrical load of 661 MVA, an increase of 6 percent compared to last year, while the Makkah Region recorded a new figure of 3780 MW, compared to 3729 MW last year, pointing out that the electrical projects carried out in the Holy Capital, and the electric plan for the season of Umrah and the holy month of Ramadan succeeded in overcoming the new loads with high reliability.
SEC stressed that early preparations for the Umrah season by its specialists, advanced maintenance operations and programs, and new projects that entered the service in the region had an important role in enabling the electrical network to achieve the new peak loads. SEC pointed out that it has started operating three central transmission stations of 380 kV and 18 main transmission stations of 110 kV in the Makkah Region at a total cost of SR136.5 million. It has also implemented projects to strengthen and improve distribution networks and link transmission stations in Makkah at a total cost of SR2,575 million this year.
At the same time, SEC has praised the efforts and achievements of its engineers and technicians, and their effective role in supporting the reliability of the electrical network in the Holy Capital.
During the past five years, SEC has implemented 116 projects in the Makkah Region with a value of SR52.819 billion, including a 2460 MW power station project in southern Jeddah, the project to connect the electricity service to the project of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to expand Al-Masjid Al-Haram, the project to connect the Western Region to the Southern Region (380KV), and the two power transmission projects for King Abdullah Economic City and King Abdullah Sports City.
