Jeddah - Arab Today

The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) opened on Thursday the Environment Forum 2017 at the Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Center for Science and Technology (Scitech) in Alkhobar. The center seeks to highlight environmental preservation efforts, enhance communication and create opportunities for the sharing of knowledge and experience among relevant parties.
The forum was inaugurated in the presence of a number of officials from government agencies and specialists in the field.
Government agencies participating in the event include the Eastern Region Secretariat, Saudi Aramco, the General Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Protection, Imam Abdul Rahman Al-Faisal University in Dammam, and the Environment Protection Unit of the Human Rights Commission.
According to SEC, the biggest power company in the MENA region, the forum is “an important opportunity to exchange experiences in the field of environmental conservation and a platform to learn about the experiences of others and to take advantage of modern ways and methods to preserve the environment and raise the level of interest in it.”
The company said the forum also seeks to promote and develop partnerships with experts in environmental conservation, and support organizations, national entities, associations and events in its pursuit to preserve the environment and raise awareness about it.
“The forum will review a number of working papers from the participating parties, which discuss the impact of environmental pollution in bio-media, recycling methods of household waste and its conversion to fertilizer using modern technologies, and the impact of oil leaks on the environment in the generation plants ... which will be presented by a selected elite group of consultants and specialists in the field of environment,” SEC said in a statement.
The company is working to promote reliance on clean energy sources, optimal use of resources, reuse and recycling, waste minimization measures and compliance with all prevailing environmental laws and regulations.
Compliance with global environmental standards and updated environmental standards issued by the General Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Protection in 2014 is monitored through periodic audits in accordance with ISO 19001:2011.
