UN chief: Elections in east Ukraine unfortunate and counterproductive

Elections organised and won by separatists in eastern Ukraine over the weekend were "unfortunate and counterproductive," UN chief Ban Ki-moon said Tuesday.
"The quote unquote elections in the eastern part of the country this past Sunday are an unfortunate and counterproductive development. I urge all parties concerned to urgently recommit to the letter and spirit of the Minsk protocol and memorandum," Ban said in a speech at OSCE headquarters in Vienna.
