Operation starts to lift shipwrecked Costa Concordia

Workers on Monday began trying to lift upright the wrecked Costa Concordia cruise ship on an Italian island, in the largest salvage operation of its kind. "All of the verifications have been carried out and the operation has started," said Fabrizio Curcio, the deputy civil protection chief. Overnight storms had delayed the start of the operation by several hours.
