Beijing - XINHUA
About 50,000 people in a southern Chinese town have struggled to access tap water for four days, after rain-triggered mountain torrents damaged the town's water facilities. Locals in the county seat of Suijiang in Yunnan Province have used buckets, woks and bottles to get water from wells and mountain springs after their tap water was cut off last Thursday. The county of Suijiang experienced intense rain on the evening of July 4, and the ensuing flash floods destroyed several parts of the town's water supply pipelines, local officials said. Workers are repairing facilities but gave no timetable on the resumption of the water supply. Local authorities have dispatched tanker trucks to provide water in the town. The county will experience sunny weather and high temperetures this week, meteorological authorities said.
