Phoenix - UPI

Sentencing in Arizona has been delayed for the former Fiesta Bowl chief executive who admitted campaign contribution charges, officials said. John Junker was scheduled to be sentenced Friday in Maricopa County Superior Court and Monday in U.S. District Court, The Arizona Republic in Phoenix reported. Sentencing hearings already had been postponed from the spring. The newspaper said Junker's attorney sought the new delay, and prosecutors agreed because Junker is still assisting a state investigation into the Fiesta Bowl. Junker is now scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 26 in federal court and Nov. 30 in Superior Court, the Republic reported. Junker was fired in March 2011 after pleading guilty in state and federal courts to engaging in a conspiracy in which bowl employees were reimbursed for making political campaign contributions. The Republic said he faces up to 2 1/2 years in prison for the state and federal charges, or could receive a lighter sentence, including probation.
