Rabat - Arab Today

Morocco’s National Team is flying to Gabon to participate in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2017), set to take place from January 14-February 5.

The national team’s private plane took off Thursday morning from the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) Al Ain International Airport, heading to Gabon’s capital, Libreville. Once they arrive, the team will begin settling in to their residence for the duration of the tournament, located in the city of Bitam.

Morocco is in the Group C category, which also includes Côte D’Ivoire, Togo and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Its first scheduled match against the DRC will take place on January 16. Its second match will see them pitted against Togo on January 20, before taking on Côte D’Ivoire January 24.

During a press coference held at Morocco’s preparatory camp in the UAE, Morocco’s coach Hervé Renard said, “I set myself to qualify for the final quarter as a top priority, and I took it as a personal matter, I bet it.”

“We will do our utmost to achieve the best results based on our potentials and capabilities,” he added.

Last week, Renard invited SSC Napoli’s midfielder, Omar El Kadouri, to replace Morocco’s Nordin Amrabat, following his injury during the second half of the January 7th, Watford vs. Tottenham game in the Premier League, which resulted  in a 4-1 score.
