Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar has congratulated the kingdom’s leadership on the Bahrain national football team’s reaching the semi-finals of the 23rd Gulf Cup football championship, being held in Kuwait.

Askar extended sincere thanks to the leadership for its continued support for the Bahraini sport, and praised the backing of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Personal Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sport Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President.

“The outstanding level of the Bahraini team was the fruitful outcome of the leadership’s support for the Bahraini support, thanks to which, Bahraini athletes have shined at various sports gatherings,” said Askar.

BOC general secretary also noted the support of the thousands of cheering Bahraini spectators at the stadium, for their keenness on supporting the national team throughout the tournament, and the last group stage match, in particular.

Askar wished the team the best of luck in their next match against Oman on Tuesday, to keep the dreams of all Bahrainis alive of winning their first-ever Gulf Cup since it was founded in 1970.
