Emirates Aviations and Oudh Al Anfar won the Inter-University and Sponsor’s Cup respectively of the Nissan Gulf Cup cricket tournament over the weekend. Emirates Aviation took top flight as they thrashed Heriot Watt University by eight wickets to emerge Inter-University champions. The high-scoring final was a thrilling affair as Heriot Watt posted a challenging 192 runs for the loss of eight wickets which the airmen chased with aplomb, scoring 193 for the loss of two wickets and an over to spare. The Emirates Aviation chase was made possible thanks to Umair Pashiman’s unbeaten knock of 72 runs. Keeping company for Pashiman was Zahid Bashir who also played an important knock of 38 not out while Rahul also contributed 45 valuable runs. In the Sponsor Cup final, Zahid’s all-round show backed with excellent team-work saw Oudh Al Anfar pull off a 12-run win over HSBC. Batting first, Oudh Al Anfar chalked up a challenging total of 148 before being all out in 20 overs. Amjad top scored with 57 runs. In reply, Zahid’s four-wicket burst restricted the bankers to 136 runs for the loss of seven wickets at the end of the allotted 20-overs.
