Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar yesterday (OCT. 29) received representatives of the GCC athletics delegations, GCC Athletics Organisation Committee and the Technical Committee on the sidelines of the Fourth GCC Girls' Athletics Championships, which concluded in Bahrain yesterday (OCT. 30). Askar conveyed the greetings of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa to Bahrain’s guests, and his best wishes to them. Askar lauded the performances of the young athletes in this regional championship, which reflects the extent of development of athletics in the Gulf region. The BOC acting general secretary also commended the efforts of the GCC Athletics Organisation Committee in an attempt to support this discipline and develop it, which had good influence on the results of the GCC teams once competing on an international level. Askar affirmed the committee’s willingness to back any proposal or a programme which the GCC Athletics Organisation Committee is planning to have in the near future, stressing the importance of taking advantage of the 78th GCC Olympic Committees Presidents as well as the side meetings that take place in Bahrain from November 9 to 11. On his part, GCC Athletics Organisation Committee general secretary Saad Al Mihri of the UAE expressed thanks and appreciation to the BOC for the warm reception and hospitality, stressing the outstanding organization of the championship, which reflected the great abilities which Bahrain has in this regard. At the end of the meeting, Al Mihri and Technical Committee chairman Ebrahim Al Sakkar took this opportunity to honour Askar and former Bahrain Athletics Association member Mohammed Ali in appreciation to their major contributions in the game development over the past years. The meeting was also attended by BOC financial and administrative affairs chief executive Jehad Khalefan, acting sports affairs chief executive Hisham Al Balooshi, Bahrain Athletics Association member Dr Mohammed bin Daina and Ruqaya Al Ghasra.
