Amman - Iman Abu Kaoud
Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour Amman - Iman Abu Kaoud Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour has disclosed that the national electricity company's deficit has accumulated to 3.4 billion dinars ($4.7bn) over the last three years. Speaking to reporters, Ensour explained that the company costs the state around $7bn every year, after the various subsidies are added on. Following a meeting with members of the Financial & Economic Committee of Jordan's House of Representatives on Tuesday evening, Enasour said that the electricity company's deficit is around 3.1bn dinars of the value of the total annual deficit, and that "every dinar the company loses is paid by the state treasury in the form of subsidy for electricity." The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Umayya Toukan and Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Mohammed al-Momani.
