A collision of a van and a logging truck in Russia's Leningrad Region killed 10 people, officials said. The crash occurred Saturday near the town of Vyborg when a Volkswagen van drove into the oncoming lane and collided with the logging truck, RIA Novosti said. Ten people died at the scene, and two van passengers and the driver of the truck were in intensive care reported. Local officials said there was black ice on the road the caused the van to skid into oncoming traffic during a turn. A criminal probe has been launched, and prosecutors said they are investigating whether the road's maintenance may have led to the tragedy. The section of the road where the crash occurred is rented by Finland, which is responsible for its maintenance, prosecutors said.
