A freight train derailed while traveling through a sprawling slum in Kenya Sunday, leaving several people injured, the Red Cross said. A definite casualty toll was not known as rescuers continued to pull people from the wreckage of homes in Kibera, which CNN described as one of the largest slums in Africa. The train was on its way to Uganda when it jumped the tracks and plowed into shanties built just a short distance from the right of way. A police officer told the BBC shortly after the derailment that six injured people had been rescued, but the Red Cross said in a tweet that scores of people were feared trapped in their homes. A reporter from the Daily Nation told the BBC the rescue effort was slowed by large crowds of onlookers and the haphazard layout of the Nairobi-area slum. "Navigating through the shanties to get to the scene is difficult," journalist Issac Ongiri said.
