More than 100 police officers were injured in a clash Saturday with protesters opposed to the eviction of a left-wing cultural center in the northern German port city of Hamburg, local media reported. More than 7,000 protesters took to the streets against the closure of the Rote Flora cultural center, a squatted rally point for left-wing activists in Hamburg. The demonstration turned into a clash when the march was hindered by riot police. Protesters threw stones and bottles at the police, who then responded with batons and water cannon. About 120 police officers were injured in the riot, which ended early Sunday morning, reported local newspaper Hamburg Morgenpost. The number of wounded protesters remained unknown. Nearly 20 protesters were arrested. Rota Flora center has been occupied by leftist activists since 1989, and houses protests regularly.
