Game warden shot by hunters in California

A California Department of Fish and Wildlife game warden was hospitalized in serious condition after being shot by a hunter, officials said. Warden Bob Pera, 35, was taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center after being shot in the hand and neck Saturday night while conducting a compliance check on two hunters, Fish and Wildlife spokesman Lt. Patrick Foy said. "We might sit back and watch for a certain period of time and then make contact," Foy said. "At some point before he was going to make the contact, there was a shot fired and he was hit." Foy said the two hunters were cooperative after the shooting and "they ultimately rendered aid" to Pera as he called for medical assistance, the Sacramento (Calif.) Bee reported. El Dorado County Sheriff spokesman Sgt. Chris Felton said no one was arrested for the shooting, which was still under investigation.
