
The death toll from typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines rose to 5,632, the Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Saturday morning. According to the agency, 34 bodies have been recovered in central Tacloban city, one of the worst affected areas in the disaster, adding the number of fatalites to 5,632 from Thursday's 5,598. The NDRRMC said that the number of people who were injured at the height of typhoon Haiyan, locally known as Yolanda, stood at 26,136. The number of people still missing also remained at 1,759, it added. The cost of damage to agriculture and infrastructures is estimated at 30.6 billion pesos (699.7 million U.S. dollars).
