Nine elementary school students were injured after their school bus collided with another bus in the U.S. state of Texas on Wednesday, local media reported. The crash happened in Athens, a small town in east Texas, Wednesday afternoon, the website of the Houston Chronicle reported. The accident involved buses containing about 70 Athens elementary school students. One bus struck another from behind, leaving at least nine kids hurt, the report said. Spokeswoman at East Texas Medical Center Athens, Rebecca Berkley, told the media all of the children, ranging in age from 5 to 10, have been treated for their injuries and discharged. She confirmed nine students were brought to the hospital by ambulance with injuries ranging from fractures to bumps and bruises. Sixty other children arrived by bus for precautionary examination. It's not immediately known what caused the collision. Though the United States is reputed for its strict school bus safety code, such accidents are not uncommon.
