Yemeni parties resume peace talks in Kuwait

Yemeni parties resumed peace negotiations on Saturday, the third day of UN-backed talks in Kuwait seeking a consensus that could help conclude an inclusive solution to the crisis in Yemen.
The direct talks, attended by UN Special Envoy for Yemen Ismael Ould Cheikh Ahmed and involve representatives of the Yemeni government, representatives of Houthis and the ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh, kicked off in Kuwait last Thursday.
They will focus on implementation of UN Security Council resolution No 2216, and the possibility of setting a framework to pave the way for an organized peaceful process in Yemen based on the GCC Initiative and the outcome of the Yemeni National Dialogue.
On Friday, the Special Envoy lauded as positive and encouraging the first round of the direct intra-Yemeni peace talks, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.
"The tone and atmosphere of the talks send an upbeat message that the road to peace in Yemen is very near now," the UN mediator said at a press conference.
