A senior Syrian official on Saturday warned against unilateral military moves against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Syria.
Defeating terrorism cannot achieve aspired success unless it respects the independence and sovereignty of countries through coordination with governments, otherwise a unilateral military action by any alliance against ISIL will be but aggression on Syria, and it has to be dealt with just like this, Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad said in a press statement carried by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
Launching war against ISIL in Syria and Iraq should only proceed in close coordination with the two governments, he added. It is illogical and unconvincing that combating the terrorist organization would take place through offering weaponry to armed groups in a country, he stressed.
According to Mekdad, Syria has been engaged in a fight against terrorism for a long time and has been urging world countries to take part.
