UN Yemen Envoy Praises Return of Opposition Parties to DCC Meetings

UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmad praised as "pivotal and positive indication" the decision of the negotiating teams of the General People's Congress and Ansarullah movement to return to the talks with the government negotiators within the De-escalation and Coordination Committee (DCC). "The decision signals the commitment of all parties to help the committee monitor the field developments on the ground and strengthen the agreement on cessation of hostilities," he said in a press release on Wednesday night. 

    The UN envoy noted that the decision followed separate meetings and lengthy political consultations he had had with heads of the two negotiating teams to convince them of the urgency of the DCC work, according to Kuwait news agency (KUNA). "The chief delegates of the General People's Congress and Ansarullah movement presented letters to the effect that their respective negotiating teams agreed to resume participation in the DCC meetings," he said, noting that their return is "pivotal to the success of the talks." He added that he made a presentation to the UN Security Council via a satellite link on the progress of the UN-sponsored intra-Yemeni peace talks.
