Cairo - Arab Today

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed on Friday that the Egyptian-Saudi relations have their own peculiarity as the two countries share joint history and one destiny, and the Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz's visit to Cairo will help achieve a quantum leap in cooperation in all fields.

President Sisi asserted the importance of following up and implementing the outcome of an Egyptian-Saudi coordination council in a way that serves the interests of both countries and peoples, presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef said after the two leaders' talks in Cairo.

Following the talks, President Sisi granted King Salman the Order of the Nile in appreciation of the friendly and distinguished relations binding the two countries.

The Collar of the Nile (Kiladat El Nil) is Egypt's highest state honor. It is awarded by Egypt for exceptional services to the country.

The spokesman added that the Saudi King hailed the historical close relations binding the two countries.

The king also lauded the steps taken by Egypt to complete its roadmap and go ahead with the economic and social development process.

He stressed the Kingdom's full support for Egypt in different circumstances.

The talks dealt with ways of boosting bilateral relations at all levels, including the activation of all agreements and memoranda of understanding signed between the two countries, the spokesman said.

The two sides also agreed to establish a land bridge connecting Egypt and Saudi Arabia, which will contribute to boosting trade exchange and facilitating the movement of peoples and goods between Asia and Africa.

President Sisi announced that the bridge will be named after King Salman.

The meeting also took up the latest developments in the Arab region. They asserted the importance of supporting efforts aiming at reaching a peaceful settlement to the Yemeni crisis.

They also discussed the situation in Syria and stressed their support for UN-sponsored negotiations in Geneva on Syria.

King Salman and President Sisi also tackled the Libyan crisis, asserting the necessity of restoring stability to the North African country.

They also took up the Palestinian cause, stressing the necessity of reaching a fair solution based on the two-state option.
