Sayyid Badr bin Saud bin Harib Al Busaidi, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs met Michael Fallon, United Kingdom Secretary of Defence at his Office in the UK Department of Defence on Tuesday.

The meeting discussed fields of the existing cooperation between the two countries and how to develop it to serve the interests of the two friendly countries. The meeting also discussed a number of issues of common interest.

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah Al Hinaie, the Sultanate’s Ambassador to the UK, Air Vice-Marshal Matar bin Ali Al Obaidani, RAFO Commander, a number of senior Sultan Armed Forces (SAF) officers and senior officials at the U.K Department of Defence.

The following statement has been issued: “within the framework of the distinguished relations between the Sultanate and the friendly UK and the desire of both friendly countries to enhance military cooperation relations between them to serve the shared interests for both countries and within the framework of sharing training and operational experiences, the two sides discussed the British-Omani Military Exercise Al Saif Al Sareea ‘Swift Sword -3’, which will be carried out in the Sultanate in the last quarter of 2018. Units from the Sultan’s Armed Forces, the Royal Air Force of Oman and the Royal Navy of Oman and their similar units in the UK army will take part in the exercise.”

The “Swift Sword -3’ aims at sharing combat and logistic experiences in the field of carrying out joint military operations through the use of modern weapons, tactics and coordination techniques that will enhance the military capability, ensure sustainable readability and operational efficiency of the armed forces in the two friendly countries and achieve common national objectives.

The 3rd version of “Swift Sword” builds upon the success made at the previous two military training exercises “Swift Sword -1’ and “Swift Sword -2’ that have been implemented by the two friendly countries some years ago.
