Commander of the Egyptian Navy Osama Rabea asserted on Thursday that Egypt is capable of protecting its borders and Arab countries' security.
In statements after wrapping up the official ceremony held for handing over the Mistral-class helicopter carrier from France to Egypt, Rabea said that Egypt is always boosting its combat capabilities.
The carrier is characterized by all main military components including air, navy and ground forces, he said.
It is also characterized by superior combat capabilities that can help in implementing all missions as soon as possible as well as staying in sea for long periods, he further said.
Rabea also said that another Mistral-class helicopter carrier, named after late president Anwar el Sadat, is planned to be received next September, adding that other carriers will be received in 2018.
The commander congratulated the Egyptian people over the receiving of the carrier and reassured them that the Egyptian navy is able to protect the shores and borders of Egypt from any expected threats.
Meanwhile, he said that Egypt is adopting a new policy that is based on diversity. He stressed that Egypt is signing partnerships with Russia, Italy and Germany, adding that Egypt is expected to receive submarines from Germany.
In the meantime, French Navy commander Admiral Bernard Rogel said that the carrier will enable Egypt to defend its territories in particular and the Middle East in general.
