Doha - Arab Today

Head of Syria's High Negotiations Committee (HNC) Nasr Al Hariri praised Qatar's remarkable positions in support of the Syrian people, affirming that the State of Qatar is opposed to any demographic change in Syria, or population transfer.
Speaking to Qatari newspaper (Al-Watan), Nasr Al Hariri highlighted the supportive stances of the State of Qatar, as well as Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and all other friends of the Syrian people who provided the needed support throughout the crisis.
Asked about the Fifth round of Geneva talks on Syria, Al Hariri stressed the difficulty of the negotiations with the second party who is responsible of hundreds of massacres described as war crimes and crimes against humanity, and unlimited violations.
He blamed the Syrian regime for the failure of Geneva talks in 2014, as well as the past peace negotiations, noting that the regime and its allies have no serious desire to reach a peaceful solution.
Speaking about the efforts made by UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, Al Hariri said that Mistura is a mediator not a party, noting some differences on certain positions and other demands with no response by the United Nations.
He added that the UN team must be dealt with within this framework, in a way which  serves the political process on the basis of the international resolutions and references, which, from the opposition's point of view, clearly demands a political transition without Bashar Al Assad.
Concerning fears about dividing Syria, Nasr Al Hariri said that  Syrian people believe in the unity of Syria and will not accept the idea of partition, noting that there are some international trends to impose a reality that indicates chaos and division, but he believes that the will of the Syrian people will not be broken or defeated.
Highlighting the Turkish position towards the Syrian crisis, he said that Turkey's supportive stance towards the Syrian issue did not change, adding that Turkey is seeking Syria free of terrorism that is threatening its borders.
Speaking about the US position and President Donald Trump's idea about the establishment of safe zones in Syria, Al Hariri said that the US foreign policy towards the Middle East in general, and Syria in particular, is not clear yet, noting that the Syrian opposition is not against the US policy in countering terrorism.
Al Hariri welcomed the declaration of the Arab Summit in Amman about Syria and praised all Arab positions that support the political solution on the basis of the international references, in order to end the crisis and meet the urgent humanitarian needs of the Syrian people.
