
His Majesty King Abdullah II said that improving performance of government institutions lies in providing better services to citizens and meeting their demands through the use of modern technology tools.
During a meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace on Wednesday to discuss measures taken by the government to implement the smart ID card project, the King checked on progress of work to execute the project, and benefit from its services in order to ease the burden on citizens and the accelerate the process of meeting their demands.
His Majesty highlighted the importance of adopting the best standards when issuing these cards especially in terms of safety, applications and providing necessary services to people.
He also reiterated the importance of the electronic government project that has a major role in improving the level of services offered to citizens in an easy manner that saves both time and effort.
The meeting, which was attended by the Royal Court chief, the director of the King's Office and the interior minister, also focused on stages of implementing the e-government project and means to connect government departments across the Kingdom especially in the health and educational fields.
Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour presented a briefing on the government's plan to implement the smart card services and remove obstacles facing citizens while trying to get services.
The government he added, is keen to issue high quality smart ID cards that guarantee the security of information, noting that it has to be a multi-purpose card in line with the highest technical standards used in developed countries.
Minister of Information and Communications Technology Majd Shweikeh also presented a briefing on the percentage of accomplishment in the project and the expected results once it is applied. She said that 64 percent of the project has been accomplished, adding that it will be fully completed over the next three months.
