Jordanian King Abdullah II
Amman - Petra

His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday welcomed at the al Husseiniya Palace Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and said challenges facing the Middle East required an intensive regional and international effort to address.
During the meeting, His Majesty reviewed conditions in the region and said efforts should be stepped up to find radical solutions to those challenges to confront and hold in check terrorist organisations and increasingly expanding extremist tendencies to arrive at a more secure and stable future for its people.
King Abdullah also stressed the importance of stepping up efforts to restore the momentum to the Middle East peace process after ensuring a permanent ceasefire in the Israeli war against the Gaza Strip.
He spoke of the need to create conditions conducive to the resumption of Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations according to the two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions to address all final status issues leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state as per 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
His Majesty cautioned against the repercussions of the ongoing Syrian crisis on neighbouring countries, namely Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon, that host the largest numbers of Syrian refugees.
As a country hosting refugees, Jordan shoulders an enormous burden beyond its limited resources, which required increased and more intensive international aid to the Kingdom, he said.
Regarding the situation in Iraq, King Abdullah stressed that Jordan supports all efforts to promote unity in Iraqi ranks and achieve national consensus on various challenges facing the country.
He said that the formation of a new Iraqi government, headed by Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi, which won the vote of confidence in parliament yesterday, is an important step in that direction, and must be built on "for the good of Iraq in order to bolster its sovereignty and unity of its people with the participation of all its political forces." During the meeting, the King discussed bilateral relations and ways of enhancing these in various fields.
The Turkish Foreign Minister briefed the King on his country's position vis-à-vis the current issues facing the region, pledging that Ankara would closely coordinate with Jordan at various levels. He said Turkey appreciated the King's policies and Jordan's role in addressing challenges.
The meeting was attended by the Royal Court Chief, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs, the director of the King's Office and the Turkish ambassador in Amman.
