Amman - Arab Today

Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Monday called for increased cooperation between Jordan and Malta to combat terrorism, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

At a meeting with Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, Ensour said the two countries need to intensify cooperation along with the international community to face radicalism and terrorism.

Stressing that Jordan is looking forward to Malta's support, Ensour said the current unprecedented and exceptional conditions require immediate and urgent aid to reduce the impact and pressure on Jordan.

The Jordanian prime minister reviewed challenges Jordan is facing due to hosting more than 1.3 million Syrian refugees.

Meanwhile, Ensour said there will be no peace in the Middle East without reaching a lasting solution to Palestinian issue that leads to the creation of an independent Palestinian state at the borders of 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Maltese official stressed on the key role Jordan plays in achieving peace in the Middle East and the Mediterranean region.

Also on Monday, Jordan's Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh met with his Maltese counterpart George Vella and discussed Middle East developments.

They also looked into efforts to combat terrorism via a comprehensive strategy at the international level.
