A security official, involved in a case of smuggling a huge amount of hashish, has turned himself in to the anti-narcotics directorate of Jazan on Tuesday, after being on the run for 40 days.
An intensive search campaign had been launched to find him by police security teams in the region, as reported by the website Ajel.
The accused smuggler was working at the Al-Aridha police station, of east Jazan, and was due to retire in the next four months.
The suspect was on the run and had not surrendered himself to security agencies since Shaban 26, after he had tried to smuggle hashish in his vehicle. He was suspected by patrol team of Border Guards while he was on the road leading from Al-Qasba center to Al-Aridha. The team tried to stop him, but he refused to stop, and in the end, and evaded capture. Since then he has been on the run.
According to sources, the patrol team opened fire a number of times to warn him. But when he sensed that the Border Guards were getting close to him, he left his car and ran away from the site. The hashish and his car were taken into custody.
His story did not stop here. He went to the Al-Aridha police station where he worked and registered an official complaint that his car had been stolen. He recorded all the details of his car and went home without anybody knowing about the crime.
Then a circular came to the police station that a security official was wanted in the case of smuggling and the possession of hashish. The Al-Aridha police station stopped all his services and froze his salary and personal accounts. It also carried out an investigation to find and capture him as soon as possible to take the necessary legal action against him.
