Al-Ghanim highlights amendments to Constitutional Court law

Parliament Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim on Monday stressed the importance of the amendments introduced to law 14/1973 on setting up the Constitutional Court, offering a natural or a juridical person the right to file an original suit challenging laws.
Publishing the new law in the official Gazette quashes reports that the government would refer it back to the Parliament, Al-Ghanim said, expressing appreciation of the political leadership that approved the bill, which reflects the desirable cooperation between the authorities in line with the constitution.
Al-Ghanim also thanked the head and members of the Supreme Judicial Council and the judiciary authority for their cooperation and understanding of the significance of the amendments.
The new law constitutes a real chance for citizens to express their views and make use of their constitutional rights for challenging laws they consider drawbacks, he said.
Using the new law in a state of institutions is the best for all, and is likely to help achieve what is desired for the country, he said.
The Parliament approved the new bill on a June 24 session.
