FM takes part in OIC meeting in Abidjain Monday

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will head for Abidjain on Monday to take part in the 44th session of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Foreign Ministers Council, to convene on July 10-11, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Counselor Ahmed Abu Zeid.

In statements on Sunday, the spokesman said Shourky's participation in the current session of the OIC acquires special importance in view of the critical phase the Islamic world is facing, noting that threats and challenges have become on the rise whether from inside or outside.

The OIC foreign ministers meeting will discuss a set of important issues topped by regional crises, the role of the OIC in confronting the extremist and terrorist thought along with means of not only facing terrorist attacks but also the parties which provide with with financial or logistic support.

The spokesman also highlighted the importance of the Islamic axis in Egypt's foreign policy, asserting that Egypt was keen on enhancing mechanisms of joint Islamic action.

He also underlined the role of the Islamic Bank for Development (IDB) in Africa and central Aisa, pressing the need for activating the role of the OIC through a clear vision to support its general secretariat.

In Abidjain, the Egyptian top diplomat will hold talks with a number of foreign ministers of the Islamic countries on means of combating terrorism and standing against countries supporting or sponsoring it.
