Ambassadors of the Group of Ten (G-10) countries sponsoring the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) initiative on Thursday reaffirmed support to Yemen in the face of the challenges facing the country.
During a meeting with Defense Minister Mohammed Nasser Ahmad, the ambassadors stressed that all parties have to abide by the outcome of the national dialogue, the GCC initiative and the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, as well as adopting peaceful democratic means to address the impasse in Yemen.
According to the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), the Defense Minister briefed the ambassadors on the progress of efforts to combat terrorism, the success achieved so far and the required aid in this regard. He also appreciated the 10 countries efforts to help Yemen complete the transitional stage in line with the GCC-brokered initiative and the UNSC resolutions.
In addition, the Minister reviewed the latest developments in the country, topped with the recent threat by the Houthis, who have staged sit-ins in the surrounding areas of the Capital Sanaa.
He referred to the outcome of a meeting, held earlier on Thursday under chairmanship of President Abd-Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, which formed a presidential negotiation committee to end escalating tensions.
Ahmad said that the formation of the committee revealed the President's adherence to national consensus. He added that the committee's members had arrived in Sa'ada to meet Houthi's leader Abdul-Malik Al-Houthi.
